Condolences
Thu 15-07-2010Our deepest condolences go out to family and friends following the passing of Max Piggott.
Max was a great supporter of Evergreen. He attended the annual Pastures for Profit workshop in Mt Barker for at least the last 4 years, always doing his best to get an article submitted about our event. Max could be relied upon to ask searching questions and stimulate thought and discussion amongst the attendees. He was highly valued for his forth right approach, his good nature and his enthusiasm for new information and ideas especially for someone who achieved so much in such a long life.
At this year’s Pastures for Profit Charlie Hick informed the audience that Max had turned 90, a great achievement. Charlie led the audience in singing Happy Birthday to a much humbled and speechless Max. Max responded at the end of the day with a lovely synopsis of farming now and in the future and groups like Evergreen’s role in it, and a reminder to all to treat pastures in the same way we would a cash crop. He will certainly be missed at Evergreen events and by the farming community in the south of our state.
Kind Regards

Tue 24-03-2009Tall Wheat Grass seed has been hard to come by in recent years. Last years late Spring rains have obviously helped our local seed crops along as last week's Farm Weekly contained 2 adverts from Tambellup farmers selling Tall Wheat Grass seed. Good luck. It would also pay to ask Seed Wholesalers such as Irwin Hunter & Co and Seed and Grain Brokers if they will have seed coming in from SA.
Perennial Grass Toxicity
Tue 02-12-2008District Veterinary Officer at DAFWA Geraldton Dr Helen Spillman wants to alert Evergreen members that there have been 3 seperate cases of deaths in weaner sheep mobs grazing subtropical perennial grasses in the Geraldton area of late. She says it is due to photosensitization caused by stock selectively grazing Panic and Signal grasses, which are high in saponins. She recommends you read the attached press release, inspect your stock and contact her on 9956 8512 or 0429 206 484 if you see any sick stock.
